Taking the form of a destructured museum bench, a particular modern design that has been present in major institutions worldwide, the work that functions as an infrared heating device brings actual warmth and comfort to its current site of presentation, a gallery space renovated from a former industrial warehouse that lacks the insulating features as a present-day shelter for gallery staff, art-goers, and the artworks themselves.
Through offering the very basic survival resource in the winter of a northern city, the work has become a gathering site where human bodies are welcomed with tangible pleasance. Casually surrounded by those who enjoy the unexpected treat, the work critically reflects on its formal archetype, a minimalist museum bench that stealthily rejects human bodies in which they have long been a threat to the Modernist faith in the purity of the white cube.
